Hey everyone! My name is John, and I’m currently studying Motor Vehicle at Workforce Training Services. If you’re thinking about getting into vocational training or have a passion for cars like I do, let me give you a glimpse into what a typical day looks like here.
8:45 AM: Arriving at Workforce
My day starts with a quick coffee in the common area, where I meet up with a few mates from my class. There’s always a great buzz around the centre as learners from different courses (like Joinery, hairdressing, and Childcare) arrive. It’s good to chat with people in different areas and share experiences.
9:00 AM: Getting Hands-On in the Workshop
The real fun begins when we hit the Motor Vehicle workshop. The facilities here are top-notch, with all the latest equipment and tools you'd find in a professional garage. Our tutor, Liam, who’s worked in the industry for years, kicks things off with a quick rundown of the day’s tasks. Today, we’re focusing on brake systems, which means getting our hands dirty, inspecting brake pads, and learning how to replace them.
One of the best parts of studying at Workforce is that it’s all practical. We’re not just sitting in a classroom—we’re under the hood, working on real cars. You get to apply everything you learn straight away, which makes it stick.
11:00 AM: Theory Time
After a solid morning in the workshop, we spend some time on theory. It’s not just about turning wrenches here; understanding the mechanics behind each component is just as important. But don’t worry—the tutors make it interesting and link it directly to what we’ve been working on in the shop.
12:30 PM: Lunch Break
Lunchtime is always a laugh. Whether you're grabbing a sandwich or just chilling out, it’s a good chance to recharge before the afternoon session. I’ve made some really good friends at Workforce, so there’s always plenty of banter.
1:15 PM: Back to the Workshop
After lunch, we’re back in the workshop. Today, I’m working on diagnosing a car with an engine misfire. It’s a bit of a challenge, but that’s what I love about this course—it pushes you to solve real problems. Plus, the tutors are always there to guide you if you get stuck, but they encourage you to figure things out yourself, which gives you loads of confidence.
3:00 PM: Skills for the Future
Towards the end of the day, we often spend some time talking about future opportunities. I like to chat about my work at Charles Hurst Vauxhall and share my experience with my fellow learners. Whether it’s chatting with a careers advisor or learning more about apprenticeships, Workforce is really focused on getting you job ready. Knowing that I’m gaining skills that are in demand feels great—plus, there’s a clear path to either further study or going straight into work.
4:00 PM: Wrapping Up the Day
By 4 PM, it’s time to tidy up the workshop and head home. The days fly by because we’re always busy learning something new or improving on the skills we’ve picked up so far.
Why I Chose Workforce
Honestly, choosing to study at Workforce has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The balance of practical work and theory makes it engaging, and the tutors are so supportive. If you’re passionate about cars or just want a hands-on career, I’d definitely recommend giving the Motor Vehicle course a try.
That’s a day in my life at Workforce Training Services—maybe it could be yours too!
