Apprenticeships NI

ApprenticeshipsNI is a Northern Ireland Government funded, work-based learning programme that offers a way for businesses to increase their workforce or up-skill existing staff to develop the skills required to move a business forward. Training an apprentice is a way for you as an employer to ensure you have a skilled workforce while also demonstrating a commitment to staff development. As the employer your organisation will receive an incentive ranging from £500 - £1000 for each employee who completes the programme and achieves the full framework.


Who can participate?

Current staff or those about to take up employment within your organisation can join the programme provided they meet the following criteria:
  • Work a minimum of 21 hours per week
  • Are aged 25 or under
  • Their job is not funded by any other government programme
  • They are not in full-time education

The Apprenticeship NI programme is a NI government funded, work-based training programme, designed to provide employees aged 16-24 already in full-time paid work, quality work related training and the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification. As an apprentice you will also receive ‘off the job’ training, usually on a day-release or as agreed with your employer to work towards achieving vocational qualifications and essential skills qualifications.


Who can participate?


Current staff or those about to take up employment aged 16-24 can join the programme. You will gain a recognised qualification enabling you to up skill and progress within your organisation.


Eligibility Criteria


  • Employed within Northern Ireland
  • Attained minimum school leaving age
  • In paid employment
  • Working a minimum of 21 hours per week
  • Meet the necessary entry requirements for your chosen vocational area
